Start snapping

We are having a late start to spring with Early Nancies and Common Heath still flowering in some places, thanks to the rain (or some will say, no thanks!)
Start taking photos of the flora and fauna in your backyard or floral reserve, and there may be a surprise event this summer.

Be a G4W champion!

I am seeking champions for G4W Mitchell who want to do something for the natural heritage in Mitchell Shire. Do consider volunteering in one of these upcoming programs, or better still, across programs:
• Citizen science: survey flora and fauna on public land with significant biodiversity to inform conservation
• Garden guiding: help landowners increase habitat and resources for wildlife
• Public engagement: promote G4W on social media
Have a think about what you can do for the environment (I am open to ideas!)
G4W Champion application opens in the next G4W newsletter (Nov/Dec)

Past activities:

30 October 2022 Sunday: Mt Disappointment Guided Walk & Open Garden Visit

We have two events: a walk around Mt Disappointment in the morning, and am open garden visit in the afternoon in Heathcote Junction. You can attend either one (or both!)

Morning walk on Mt Disappointment – Explore Wandong Regional Park at the back of Heathcote Junction. The walk is a little over 5 km of track; however, there is a steep downhill section that makes this walk of moderate difficulty. We will expect to see lots of indigenous pea plants and other local flora and fauna.
Meet: South Mountain Road. There is an off-road parking area just past Dry Creek Road: View on Google Maps.
Accessible to 2WD if you come from the south via Epping–Kilmore Road (South Mountain Road turnoff) or via North Mountain Road from Heathcote Junction. Some tracks are only 4WD.
Time & Duration: Meet 9.30 am, walk is 3 h.
Bring:
• Wet weather gear
• Sunscreen & insect repellent
• Food & water
• Non-slip walking shoes
• Hiking poles (if you have them)

Afternoon open garden visit to Dawn McCormack’s garden (Heathcote Junction.) – Dawn’s garden is a work in progress, one that she is painstakingly replacing exotic plants with native vegetation.
Following the Mt Disappointment walk, we will drive to Dawn’s place (10 minutes away) for lunch. Enjoy your lunch (self-catered) in her garden; the visit begins at 2 pm, and ends with tea (catered).
Time & Duration: 1 pm (lunch), 2 pm (garden tour).
